Pipeline (Solo Variant)

Description

The refinement of oil has long been part of the government-controlled energy sector.

Amassed with an incredibly complex and inefficient system of refineries, the government has felt the severe pressures of worldwide demand and the ever-increasing global standards for refinement.

Unable to keep up with demand, the government has only one option: privatizing the oil industry. This is where you come in.

Seeking to capitalize on this new opportunity, in Pipeline you start a company in the oil business.

You will focus on building a much more efficient pipeline network in your refinery, hiring experts that provide valuable benefits over your competitors, and managing the logistics of purchasing and selling your refined oil in the various markets.

You will need more than strong economic skills – carefully crafting an interweaving network of pipelines just might ensure your victory!

Solo Variant

Pipeline is a complex game that may not be to everyones taste.

It doesn’t have a published solo set of rules. However, an excellent automa has been created by John Koch

The Solo Automa, named Ludvig, will act as a 2nd player over the course of a game. Your goal is to beat Ludvig’s score at the end of the game.

Generally, Ludvig will follow all multiplayer rules. However, below are instances when he does not follow the typical multiplayer rules:

Ludvig will collect Pipes, Machines, Tanks, Oil, Contracts, Orders and Upgrades. But he will not build a pipe network or store any oil on tanks, contracts or orders.
Ludvig will collect Contracts & Orders but will never need to fulfill them (to receive or keep during refresh). He will keep them till the end of the game.
Ludvig never pays to use any action.
Ludvig will start with no cash ($0).
Ludvig will start with 2 teal, 2 orange, and 2 silver oil barrels.
Ludvig will start with no tanks.
Oil in Ludvig’s supply is always considered high grade.
If Ludvig cannot perform the action at all (contracts/orders run dry, etc.) then continue drawing action
cards until Ludvig can perform an action.
Ludvig will always strive to go first when given the opportunity to change player order
