Description
In CATAN (formerly The Settlers of Catan), players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads.
On each turn, dice are rolled to determine what resources the island produces.
Players build by spending resources (sheep, wheat, wood, brick, and ore) that are depicted by these resource cards; each land type, with the exception of the unproductive desert, produces a specific resource: hills produce brick, forests produce wood, mountains produce ore, fields produce wheat, and pastures produce sheep.
Points are accumulated by building settlements and cities, having the longest road and the largest army (from some of the development cards), and gathering certain development cards that simply award victory points.
CATAN has won multiple awards and is one of the most popular games in recent history due to its amazing ability to appeal to experienced gamers as well as those new to the hobby.
Solo Mode
There are a few solo variants of Catan.
Siedler Rules
Siedler is a solo mode by Tony Alicea. Its name is taken from the original German name of the game, “Die Siedler von Catan”.
This solo mode uses only materials in the base game box, and simulates, in many ways, the feeling of a 3-player game of Catan.
The board is set up for three users, but the 2nd and 3rd players will be played by the Siedler AI.
The Villagers of Catan Rules
In this version, you will play one faction in a very similar way to the normal Settlers of Catan game.
Your single opponent will be using an alternate growth system which will see villages grow into towns, build roads, then cities, and purchasing development cards along the way
Conceptually, your opponent uses dice pip increases/decreases in a similar way to how you acquire and spend cards.
